SUMMARY:ANNUAL ANZAC DAY DAWN SERVICE
DESCRIPTION:The Embassies of Australia and New Zealand welcome you to join them on April 25 for an ANZAC Day Dawn Service to recognize and remember the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand veterans. \nFriday\, April 25 from 5.30 AM\nWorld War I Memorial\nPershing Park\, 1449 Pennsylvania Avenue NW\, Washington\, DC \nLimited street parking is available. This is a free community event. \nThe Consulates-General and expat community groups of both nations will host services and events elsewhere throughout the United States on April 25. \nApril 25 marks the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand soldiers – the ANZACs – on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915. The aim was to capture the Dardanelles and open a sea route to the Bosporus and the Black Sea. At the end of the campaign\, Gallipoli was still held by its Ottoman Turkish defenders. \nThousands lost their lives during the Gallipoli campaign: 87\,000 Ottoman Turks\, 44\,000 men from France and the British Empire\, including 8500 Australians. To this day\, Australia also marks the events of 25 April. Among the dead were 2779 New Zealanders\, about one in six of those who served on Gallipoli \nLater that morning\, the Australian Ambassador to the United States\, HE the Hon. Dr. Kevin Rudd AC\, welcomes you to join us for an ANZAC Day Commemorative Church Service at the Washington National Cathedral. \nFriday\, April 25 from 10.30 AM\nWashington National Cathedral\n3101 Wisconsin Ave NW\, Washington\, DC \nThis is a free community event. \nThe ceremony is free and open to the public. \nYour support for the Doughboy Foundation will help fund our mission in perpetuity\, inspiring future generations of visitors and forever honoring our World War I veterans and all U.S. servicemen and women.
