115th Infantry Regiment
Company H, 115th Infantry Regiment, included the successors to the "Maryland 400" during World War I in France.
LAFAYETTE, WE ARE HERE! The special relationship between the United States and France dates back to French military fighting in the Revolutionary War. Units such as the 29th Infantry Division which fought in France during WWI, derived directly from units that fought with Lafayette and Rochambeau, to include the 1st Maryland which was formed by the survivors of the heroic action at the Battle of Brooklyn on 27 August, 1776.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, join fellow history enthusiasts for two special events:
- A Symposium on the Maryland 400 at the Battle of Brooklyn on 23 May at the Maryland Veterans Museum, Newburg, MD
- The dedication of a Unit Tribute to the Maryland 400 on 24 May at the National Museum of the US Army on Fort Belvoir, VA.
The Symposium on May 23 takes place at the Maryland Veterans Museum, 11000 Crain Highway (Highway 301), Newburg, MD, and is co-sponsored by the Port Tobacco Chapter, NSDAR. Join us for a full-day symposium on the Maryland 400 with program guest speakers from the local academic community. Breakfast treats, lunch, drinks, and snacks provided, free parking, conference fee and museum entrance included, all thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. There will be time to visit the museum, including the special exhibit on the Maryland 400 in the Revolutionary War gallery. To Register Click HERE or scan the QR code at right. You can also check our Facebook page “Maryland 400 Unit Tribute and Symposium” for additional means to register, details, and updates. Pre-registration is required.
The Unit Tribute event on May 24 takes place in Veteran’s Hall at the National Museum of the US Army, 1775 Liberty Drive, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060, and is also co-sponsored by the Port Tobacco Chapter, NSDAR The Unit Tributes on the Wall of Honor commemorate the service of the courageous men and women who fought for our country. On the eve of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, none is more deserving than “the Maryland 400,” whose rearguard action at the Battle of Brooklyn allowed the Continental Army to escape capture and destruction; denied the British the capture and execution of its commander, General Washington; and saved the revolution from defeat just one month after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. There is a reception at 1:30pm, and the Ceremony starts at 2:00pm. To Register Click HERE or scan the QR code at left. Check our Facebook page “Maryland 400 Unit Tribute and Symposium” for additional means to register, details, and updates. Pre-registration is required.
Both events are free and include free parking. If you have any questions, contact [email protected].
